Introduction: The bark of the Arjuna tree is the most useful part of it for medicinal purposes. The brownish hard scale of a fully grown plant is just what should be taken.
Description: Flat or slightly curved, stratified pieces of stem bark of varying sizes and 5 to 10 mm thickness. External surface pink or flesh colored with a mealy coating. Inner surface reddish brown, finely striated, peeling out in thin flakes. Fracture - fibrous; odor - none; taste - gritty and astringent.

The bark of Terminalia Arjuna inhibits the oxidation of LDL and accelerates the turnover of LDL-cholesterol in liver. This enhances the elimination of cholesterol from the body. The suppression of hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis by Terminalia Arjuna is the mechanism responsible for a significant lowering of beta-lipoprotein lipids and the recovery of HDL components in hyperlipidemia.
It is a powerful cardio-tonic and also has lipidolytic activity. Primely it strengthens the heart muscle. It also prevents the heart from Cardiac arthrosclerosis. That's why it is widely used in case of lesions of heart just like Angina, myocardial infarction, palpitation etc
